Anna Totman Beckwith papers, 1903-1977.

Anna Beckwith, a St. Ignatius, Montana, native, was a graduate of the University of Montana and Johns Hopkins Hospital Training School (1929). She served as the superintendent of St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, Montana, from 1934 to 1941 and as executive secretary of the Montana State Board of Nursing from 1941 to 1968. This collection (1903-1977) consists of correspondence, primarily incoming (1940-1941) in response to Ms. Beckwith's interest in joining the Army Nurse Corp and her resignation from St. Peter's Hospital; and a yearbook (1928) from John Hopkins Hospital Training School, and miscellaneous school records (1917-1928). The remainder of the collection (1903-1977) includes certificates, awards, diplomas, clippings, and miscellany. [OVERSIZE MATERIAL in Box A1] Artifacts were transferred to the museum; photographs to the Photograph Archives. This collection consists of correspondence, primarily incoming concerning Ms. Beckwith's interest in joining the Army Nurse Corp and her resignation from St. Peter's Hospital; a yearbook (1928) from John Hopkins Hospital Training School; and miscellaneous school records (1917-1928). The remainder of the collection (1903-1977) includes certificates, awards, diplomas, clippings, and miscellany. Oversize materials are located in Oversize Box A1. Anna Totman Beckwith was born on March 31, 1903, in Missoula, Montana, the daughter of George Henry and Eva Elizabeth Totman Beckwith. George Beckwith was a merchant and licensed trader with the C.H. Beckwith Company in St. Ignatius. Anna Beckwith graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1921, and received a B.A. in Bacteriology in 1925 from the University of Montana.
