Anna Totman Beckwith was born on March 31, 1903, in Missoula, Montana, the daughter of George Henry and Eva Elizabeth Totman Beckwith. George Beckwith was a merchant and licensed trader with the C.H. Beckwith Company in St. Ignatius. Anna Beckwith graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1921, and received a B.A. in Bacteriology in 1925 from the University of Montana.
